1960s: Construction is adding space to the former Spokane Technical and Vocational School at 3403 E. Mission Ave. after the trade school was designated as Spokane Community College in 1963. New state funding added classroom space for academic subjects, offering students a transferable degree to regional universities, with the site still offering many vocational certificate programs in building trades, repair and maintenance, medical and service industry skills and high-tech careers. The building had opened in 1958.

Present day: The main building at Spokane Community College, now referred to as Old Main, has recently been remodeled. The campus of more than 20 buildings began as the site of Spokane Technical and Vocational School in the 1950s. The school was designated as a state junior college in 1963, prompting the expansion of academic classroom space. The campus now serves approximately 20,000 students a year.
