The Manning Rye Covered Bridge destroyed in Whitman County fire

A 102 year old covered wooden bridge landmark outside of Colfax was destroyed Monday night in a 3,000 acre fire that is still burning in Whitman County.

The remains of an historic covered bridge, called the Manning-Rye Bridge, lie smoldering in the Palouse River in Whitman County on Tuesday. The bridge was built around 1918 by the Spokane and Inland Empire Railroad. A wind-driven wildfire consumed the structure, on private property.
