With clearance work largely completed at the site of Spokane's new $6 million Federal Building, Riverside and Monroe, a huge drill rig started operation in 1965 as a preliminary to construction work L.A. Cook, chief inspector here for the General Services Administration, said the rig will sink holes 30 to 35 feet for "shoring" as excavation continues for at least another five feet below the present level.

Construction on the new Federal Office Building in downtown Spokane is progressing rapidly with the coming of warmer weather. Workers are shown putting up girders in the foreground. Concrete work on the concrete footings is underway to the right. Shown in the center is the base of the large overhead crane which is used to put the heavy girders in place. The building is being erected at Riverside and Monroe, west of the Spokane Post Office Building. The structure will house most federal agencies.

Workman Bill Arnold applies finishing touches to the name plate stone of the Spokane Federal Office Building nearing completion at Riverside and Monroe in 1967. The nine-story structure was started in September 1965 after a $6,093,000 construction contract was awarded Nelse Mortensen Co. of Seattle. The engraved stone is at the right of the barricade entrance west of the Post Office Building.
