Then and Now: Spokane Buddhist Temple

The former Liberty Heights Baptist Church is purchased for use by the Spokane Buddhist Temple. The Baptists had merged with another congregation and moved while the Buddhists were looking for more space. In 1992, two boys with matches burned the church, built around 1900, to the ground.

2018 - The Spokane Buddhist Temple, established in 1945 by Rev. H.E. Terao and a small group of Buddhist followers, have studied Buddhist teachings at a building at 10th Ave. and Perry St. since 1965. The old Baptist church they occupied burned down in 1992 and rebuilt in 1994.
