Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

The exhibition, which has attracted millions as it has toured around the world, opens Saturday at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane. It takes visitors on a journey through the ship’s construction, depicts life on board for passengers of all class levels, and takes an extensive look at its sinking and subsequent efforts to recover artifacts.

Built in Belfast, Ireland, Titanic was as tall as an 11-story building and nearly four city blocks long.
RMS Titanic, operated by the White Star Line, set sail from Southampton, England, on April 10, 1912. It made stops in France and Ireland before heading west to New York City. The night of April 14, the ship hit an iceberg. Within three hours, she had broken apart and sunk, claiming more than 1,500 lives.
Exhibition attendees enter through a “porthole gallery,” featuring an actual porthole recovered from the ship as well as photographs of its passengers.
The Titanic exhibition includes displays depicting the first-class accommodations on the doomed vessel.
Visitors to ‘Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition’ each will receive a boarding pass, a replica of one given to an actual passenger on Titanic.
