Theres some shuffling and grumbling as a man in a wheelchair gets to take priority in line at the House of Charity, Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017. The lineup for a bed, even just a thin foam pad on the concrete floor, starts around 6 p.m., though the doors don’t open until about 7 p.m. most nights outside the homeless shelter. In the rain or extreme cold, the crowd can get restive or impatient, most everyone usually at least gets a place to sit up in a chair, out of the cold, if not a bed for the night.
