1975-Workmen place vinyl canvas over huge tear in the roof of U.S. Pavilion in Riverfront Park. The City of Spokane inherited the structure from the federal government and along with it, the $100,000 repair costs. Birdair, Inc., Buffalo, N.Y., is fixing the rip for $39,000 while a local firm has bid $59,000 to adjust and repair tension cables of the pavilion. The structure will be the center of Riverfront Circus, and entertainment project recently approved by Spokane voters in a levy election.

The crane, with an operator and rigger, has been rented for $65 an hour to remove the 100,000 square foot tattered vinyl roof atop the Riverfront Park Pavilion by hoisting workmen to the top of the 140-foot high structure to cut the fabric away.
