Spokane River Classic 2014
About 140 people and more than 100 boats -- canoes, kayaks, stand up paddleboards and one rowboat -- pioneered the new route for the Spokane River Classic on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014. Sponsored by the Spokane Canoe & Kayak Club, the event seeks to draw attention to fun on the river and the need to develop more access to the waterway through town. The event, which started at the Kardong Bridge near Gonzaga University, featured a 1.3-mile citizens race and a 5.4-mile endurance course. Both groups also had to negotiate a slalom buoy course.
