The Candidates
Jeff Larsen

Education: Graduated from Central Valley High School in 1985 and then earned a fire science degree from Spokane Community College. He graduated from paramedic school in 1989.
Work experience: He worked briefly for District 8 as a volunteer before working at the Millwood Fire Department for three years. He worked for Fire District 7 in Snohomish County from 1991 to 2021. He still picks up occasional paramedic shifts with Snohomish County Fire District 26 and Orcas Island Fire and Rescue.
Political experience: First run for office.
Family: Married to Elizabeth Larsen. Has three children and three grandchildren.
Gregory (Spudd) Hesse

Education: Graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1965, then earned a fire science degree from Spokane Community College.
Work experience: Worked briefly for Northern Pacific Railroad and as a carpenter before joining the Spokane Fire Department as a firefighter in 1970. Along the way he also owned several businesses, including a construction company, and worked for General Fire Equipment for several years. He retired from the city fire department as a fire marshal in 2003.
Political experience: First served as a Spokane County Fire District 8 commissioner from 2000-13 and was re-elected in 2017.
Family: Married to Denise Hesse. Has three children and two grandchildren.
