EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree, criminal justice and public administration, Midwestern University, Wichita Falls, Texas, 2010; graduate of Ozark High School, Ozark, Mo., 1977. Served three years in the Army as a military police officer, 1977-1980.
POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: First run for political office. Former board member and president of sheriff's association, and regional director for statewide law enforcement association in Texas.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Police officer and field trainer, Baytown Police Department, Texas, from 1980 to 1985. Travis County Sheriff's Office, 1986 to 2010, starting as deputy and retiring as commander.
FAMILY: Married, three children, four grandchildren
