Dead Man Re-Elected as Mayor

About 50 miles from St.Louis, a small town called Winfield recently re-elected their mayor Harry Stonebraker in a landslide election. The problem, you see, is that Harry died on March 11th of a heart attack, about a month ago.

Lincoln County Clerk Elaine Luck wasn't surprised by Stonebraker's win saying she'd, "figured he'd win because he seemed to get even more popular after he died, just like Carnahan," Democrat Mel Carnahan died in a plane crash weeks before the November election, but still defeated his opponent. In the end his wife was appointed a special senate seat until a special election could be held.

In place of Harry, a mayor will serve until a special election in April 2010 to pick a mayor for the remainder of the two-year term.

In 2006, then-editor Steve Smith of The Spokesman-Review had the idea of starting a publication for an often forgotten audience: teenagers. The Vox Box was a continuation of the Vox, an all-student staffed newspaper published by The Spokesman-Review. High school student journalists who staffed the Vox made all content decisions as they learn about the trade of journalism. This blog's mission was to give students an opportunity to publish their voices. The Vox Box and the Vox wrapped up in June 2009, but you can follow former staffers' new blog at http://voxxiez.blogspot.com.
