P-A-R-T-Y? For Obama, Of Course!

A festival was held in Obama, Japan, Monday in honor of the election today.

Barack Obama is the life of the party in a Japanese fishing port sharing his name! This "sleepy" town awoke to cheer on the Democratic candidate before the major election. Dancing, singing, and guitar playing were all a part of this celebration. Approximately 50 children and adults sported "I Love Obama" T-shirts, too.

Seiji Fujiwara, a hotel owner in Japan, said, "I'm 85 percent confident that Obama will win."

Yuko Shirayama of the city's local "Obama Girls" hula dancing group agrees, saying, "We've been dancing for Mr. Obama for more than six months, so I hope he wins."

Based off today's results, it seems as if the celebration will continue. Hey, is anybody up for a party in Obama, Japan (say, tomorrow)?

In 2006, then-editor Steve Smith of The Spokesman-Review had the idea of starting a publication for an often forgotten audience: teenagers. The Vox Box was a continuation of the Vox, an all-student staffed newspaper published by The Spokesman-Review. High school student journalists who staffed the Vox made all content decisions as they learn about the trade of journalism. This blog's mission was to give students an opportunity to publish their voices. The Vox Box and the Vox wrapped up in June 2009, but you can follow former staffers' new blog at http://voxxiez.blogspot.com.
