Getting There

We’re No. 1! Twice!

Spokane leads the nation in Subaru ownership per capita.
Spokane leads the nation in Subaru ownership per capita.

Good news never arrives alone.

A few days ago, the Seattle Times' Gene Balk crunched some data and showed that Spokane is the Subaru-est city in the country. That is, one out of every ten car owners in town owns a Subaru. Our fleet of Subes beat those in Seattle; Hartford, Connecticut; Denver; and Portland. We are the REI-iest of them all! We should have a new name: Spobaru? Subakane?

Sadly, that news was followed by more somber numbers: Per capita, we have the most stolen cars in the state. Silver lining: We're way past the Top Five nationally. We're way, way down the list at No. 6.

Using my power of reasoning, I'm going to guess that we're the best city to steal a Subaru from. Speaking of which, I had a car stolen from in front of my house a couple of years ago. It was a 1991 Subaru Loyale.

Not so shocking anymore.
