Too Many Cooks

Spicing it up

The latest Kickstarter campaign from Peter Taylor and Heather Scholten, the pair behind Spiceologist, surpassed their goal within hours on its launch day.

They were seeking $25,000 by Feb. 19, but reached that mark shortly after noon on Jan. 4.

Formerly called Savorx Spice & Flavor Co., Spiceologist was launched through a Kickstarter campaign which raised more than $12,000 in 2012. Another campaign in 2013 helped create a new look for the company. It raised more than $50,000.

Spiceologist ran a third campaign last summer, raising more than $21,000 to help to create what its executives were calling “some sexy packaging.”

Now, the pair is launching Spice Cave Seasonings. The blends are named for the elements: Land, Sea, Wind and Fire.

They partnered with Kevin Curry of fitmencook.com to launch their latest Kickstarter and new line of seasonings, which are also certified paleo and Whole30 approved. Texas-based Curry appears in the online promotional video for the new seasonings.

The Spokane spice company opened its own storefront in November in downtown Spokane. The company sells spices, herbs and rubs as well as kitchen accessories such as the Spiceologist block, which features cork-stopped glass test tubes for herb and spice storage.
