Too Many Cooks

Tea time

Learn about loose-leaf tea and travels to Taiwan and China during a free talk and tasting Thursday night.

Representatives from Lake Missoula Tea Company in Missoula will be sampling assorted teas at Caffe Affogato in downtown Spokane. They’ll also be demonstrating how the Taiwanese and Chinese steep teas using gaiwans, or small clay or porcelain steepers.

The talk covers some geography, but the main focus will be on the tea culture in Taiwan and Yunnan – and their experiences navigating through it.

“We visited two tea farms (which) produce green, oolong, black and puerh teas, and we will be sampling and demonstrating how to properly steep to ensure their best taste,” said Jake Kreilick, who owns the 3-year-old tea company with his wife, Heather.

Their presentation and tasting take place at 7 p.m., Oct. 15 at Caffe Affogato in the Saranac Commons building, 19 W. Main Ave. Call (509) 868-0011. On the Web: caffe-affogato.com and lakemissoulatea.com.
