Too Many Cooks

Hansen plans Chefs Week Pacific Northwest and new restaurant

Jeremy Hansen, chef and owner of Santé Restaurant and Charcuterie, is planning a Chefs Week Pacific Northwest event in Spokane.

The five-day food festival is slated for March 30 to April 3, 2016, in the old downtown Washington Cracker Co. building.

According to the event’s website, the mission is to bring together the Pacific Northwest’s “most creative" chefs, artisan makers, foodies and food lovers to celebrate the restaurant profession through food and drink.

Afternoon weekday sessions are free and feature food trucks, chef demonstrations and music. Weeknight sessions cost $70 and include a six-course tasting menu. For another $30, guests can add wine pairings.

Saturday, the afternoon session – with food trucks, chef demonstrations and music – costs $15. The evening session, with an eight-course tasting menu, is $150.

Sunday, there’s a $40, all-you-can-eat brunch followed by closing ceremonies and awards.

Ten of the Pacific Northwest’s “top chefs” will collaborate for five “amazing meals,” according to the event website. So far, the chefs aren’t identified.

Hansen was a semi-finalist in the “Best Chef Northwest” category for the 2015 James Beard Foundation Awards. He has also cooked at the famed James Beard House in New York City twice - in summer 2013 and again earlier this year.

His restaurant was a finalist for the 2014 Good Food Awards. It’s also a finalist for the 2016 Good Food Awards; winners will be announced in January.

Hansen and his wife Kate,  co-owner of Santé,  opened a bake shop, Common Crumb Artisan Bakery, a year ago in January. They're also planning to open a new restaurant called Inland Pacific Kitchen in the Washington Cracker Co. building.

Hansen announced the new restaurant and local chefs week on his Facebook page Tuesday morning. He has more than 4,700 Facebook friends.
