Boise State head coach Leon Rice has decided to stay in Boise. The Washington State grad signed an extension that comes with a significant raise as well as a rollover deal.

Boise State confirms that Leon Rice is staying, as the Press-Tribune and others reported last night. Salary increase to $596,573 next year.

He reportedly will receive an additional year on his contract every year BSU makes the NCAA tournament or wins 18 or more games.

                BOISE, Idaho – Bronco head men’s basketball coach Leon Rice and Boise State University have reached an agreement on revisions to his current contract, Boise State Director of Athletics Mark Coyle announced today.

                The agreement is subject of approval from the Idaho State Board of Education and is an amendment to his contract.

                Rice will receive a $100,000 salary increase for the upcoming year which will make his salary for the 2015 fiscal year $596,573.  In the remaining four years of the contract his salary will increase by three percent each year.

                A revision was also made to the automatic extension of his contract.  One year will automatically be added to Rice’s contract each season in which the team has at least 18 wins or advances to the NCAA Tournament. 

                "I am really excited for the future of Bronco basketball,” Rice commented. “There has been a great commitment to grow this program. There's a commitment from our administration, our student-athletes and our fans. That's what has me looking forward to continuing to build what we have here at Boise State."

                Rice’s four-year record directing the men’s program is 77-54.  This past season the Broncos recorded their second straight 20-plus win season with an overall record of 21-13, while advancing to the semi-finals of the Mountain West Tournament.

                “Leon Rice has done an outstanding job directing our men’s basketball program and we look forward to many more successful seasons,” Coyle stated.  “We feel the best years of this program are ahead of us and we are very excited Leon will be leading our men’s team.”

                Coyle and Rice are both out of town this weekend and unavailable for further comment at this time.
