A snow-covered report from WSU

COUGARS

Even in this nearly dead week of Washington State athletics – in the middle of November, both the football and basketball team had the day off yesterday – we have some news and notes out of Pullman. If you are interested, read on.
••••••••••

• Washington State: As the basketball season is just getting revved up, we'll start with football this morning. The Apple Cup is only about 16 days away so you better get your tickets. Thought it would be sold out? Think again. As of Tuesday there were about 6,000 tickets still available. That includes the some 800 returned by UW. So if you want to see another Snow Bowl – after this morning's 2 inches we had on the back deck it is a distinct possibility – you can be there live. ... And if this type of event holds your interest, you can still attend the WSU football banquet Dec. 11. The dinner, held in Bohler, costs $35 and includes a buffet dinner. If you want tickets, call (509) 335-0250 or email mariet@wsu.edu. You have until Dec. 8. ... We had our Pac-10 picks in today's paper and it sure felt weird not picking a WSU game. So did not working much yesterday. ... The Paul Wulff radio show was on last night – basketball Tuesday – though we only heard bits and pieces. You can read a summary here. ... We tweeted this news yesterday. Klay Thompson is on an important list.

• Around the Pac-10: What should you look for this weekend? ESPN.com's Ted Miller tells you. ... Who will win? Miller tells you that as well. ... San Jose's Jon Wilner has his picks as well. ... Did you know the Pac-10 powers that be allow officials to work games featuring their alma mater? Should they? ... Washington: There is a lot of motivation for both sides in this game, the last at home for Mason Foster and the UW seniors. ... Oregon State: Ryan Katz has an incredibly strong arm, but he's not a mature quarterback as of yet. ... The offensive line isn't mature either. ... Oregon: OK, I am officially tired of the whining. There wasn't this much crying about Derek Jeter faking it over getting hit. And he's in New York. ... Cal: Houston is a hotbed for football talent on both sides of the bay. ... Shane Vereen has last year's Big Game performance to fall back on if he ever needs some one to buy him a drink in Berkeley. ... Stanford: Is there a comparison to be made between Andrew Luck and John Elway? ... USC: The Trojans will try to imitate WSU and put pressure on Katz. ... UCLA: Did we say both teams are motivated tonight? ... Arizona State: The Sun Devils are playing their share of true freshmen. ... Arizona: The Wildcats have a bye.

• That's all for this morning. Well be back if news warrants it. Until then ...
