WSU gets a visit from old quarterback

COUGARS

A quick post dealing with football practice and containing links to our basketball story and Pac-10 football guesses. Read on.
••••••••••

• How about if we change things up and do the links first. We have our weekly Pac-10 picks. We pick Oregon State to win but we have the Cougars covering. We'll see. ... We also have our story for tomorrow on the WSU basketball signees. ... OK, that's it for the WSU links. Now on to practice. ... Former Cougar quarterback Alex Brink was at practice, his right arm in a sling. Brink played this season for Winnipeg of the CFL, started one game then saw his season end with a broken collarbone. Brink said he's signed for next year, so he has that going for him. He's headed home to Eugene and stopped on his way through, catching up with the few players left from his senior year and the couple folks he knows in the building. ... It was cold again – though the guy from Canada didn't think it was all that bad – but not as cold as Tuesday. No changes on the injury front, though linebacker Mike Ledgerwood was suffering from a bad headache and did not practice. ... The practice was spirited with sharp hitting – the Cougars were in full pads – and lots of noise. Maybe everyone was just trying to keep warm. ... Senior Chima Nwachukwu, playing cornerback, made more than his share of plays, knocking away a couple passes against the No. 1, including tipping one that was intercepted by Tyree Toomer. With Daniel Simmons (shoulder) out for sure this week, Nwachukwu should see some time. ... Someone asked about the Simone hit and whether WSU would pass anything along. The conference officiating staff reviews game film from every contest, so if there were to be any discipline, it would be initiated there. Plus, WSU passes along any play it feels the supervisors should look at. As of now, there has been nothing said about the Simone play, so no one in Pullman expects there to be any action. ...

• That's all for now. We'll be back in the morning with our usual post. Until then ...
