As the countdown continues to Friday's season openers, no doubt we'll keep stumbling into women's basketball news.

Today is the first day of the fall signing period. We know some local girls are signing, but it could take all week to get the news out. Typically schools don't make accouncements until all letters of intent are in.

Today's signings: WSU. EWU and Idaho will have announcement, Gonzaga probably Thursday.

We have a link to the professional prospects of Tennessee senior Angie Bjorklund (5)(University HS) ... and a description of the Lady Vols new cutting-edge uniforms.

As we troll for other news, here are the area team's season openers: Friday, Gonzaga at USC, Cal-Fullerton at EWU and WSU at St. Mary's. Saturday, Eastern Oreon @ Idaho.

EWU signees: Melissa Williams (Camas High School - Vancouver, Wash.) - forward, post - 3A Greater St. Helen’s League Player of the Year; Hayley Hodgins (Chiawana High School - Pasco, Wash.) - shooting guard; Kylie Huerta (Kentwood High School - Covington, Wash.) - point guard - co-MVP of South Puget Sound League 4A North; Kayleigh Ryan (Lynden Christian High School - Lyden, Wash.) - Brianne Ryan's sister.

From Montana State: Seventy-two hours before tipping off the 2010-11 season against Rice, the Montana State women’s basketball squad received news that sophomore Ashley Albert will sit out the year following an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in her right knee suffered during Monday night’s practice.
