Counting down to WSU’s regional appearance

COUGARS

As we get closer to the weekend, there will be more Washington State baseball news, of course. But we already have some for you, so read on.
••••••••••

• We can start right here in the old Inland Northwest with John Blanchette's column on Friday's starter Chad Arnold (and that day's important). ... On the statistical side, CougCenter has this capsule of the Cougars. ... College Baseball Insider also has these capsules on the regional field. Let's play "find the inverted name" in the WSU capsule. ... Looking towards Manhattan (the Cougars open the tourney Friday evening against Kansas State), we have this feature from the Wichita Eagle's Kellis Robinett on KSU leadoff hitter Adam Muenster. ... Finally, if WSU gets by Kansas State and faces Arkansas in the second round, the Cougars will face Razorback ace Drew Smyly (8-1, 2.54 ERA). That little nugget comes from this column. ... OK, we don't only have baseball news. We had the news yesterday about WSU's basketball team spending Christmas in the Islands. Now we have a little more, thanks to this story in the Star-Bulletin. ... On the football side, Ted Miller has WSU's opener at Oklahoma State as the No. 1 chance for a Pac-10 team to be 0-1.

•••••

• That's it for now. We'll be back. Until then ...
