WSU leads 44-33 at half

COUGARS

It's halftime at the Toyota Arena and this game has stayed true to the predicted form. Read on for some thoughts.
••••••••••

• The Cougars came out and surprised PSU a little by switching all the ball screens. That forced the Vikings to try to jam the ball inside a bit, and took them out of their normal offense. But only for a while. After missing their first four 3-pointers, the Vikings hit 4 of 5 to take a 24-22 lead. That was before Klay Thompson had scored, however. In the final 3:32, Thompson had eight points – he actually sat most of the last minute – and WSU used his presence to influence the defense for two slipped screens and layups. That gave WSU an eight-point lead, a lead the Cougars would stretch to 11 after Reggie Moore's high-arcing 3 and a fastbreak layup by Xavier Thames – in for Thompson. In the final 4:38, WSU outscored PSU 22-9.

• That's it for now. We'll be back after the men's game. Until then ...
