The Spokane Valley Fire Department will host an open house at Station 8 on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. People can talk to the on-duty crew, take a tour and visit with Mako the arson dog. There will be refreshments. Those attending will also be asked to suggest a new name for Station 8. The department is in the midst of renaming all its stations and removing the number designations.

The station is located at 2110 N. Wilbur, just west of Pines Road. The department's new administration building, located next door to Station 8, will also be open for tours. The administration building has a piece of a steel beam that came from the World Trade Center on display in the front entry.
