Free pet adoption event this weekend

The Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service is taking the lead in hosting a "Mega Match-a-thon" free pet adoption event Friday and Saturday. Shelters and rescue groups from all over the area have been invited to participate in the event, which will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Subaru of Spokane, 423 W. Third.

Organizers are hoping to adopt out more than 200 animals. All dogs and cats will be vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered. Spokane County residents must pay $25 for a dog license or $15 for a cat license. People who do not live in Spokane County will not be required to buy a license.

The adoption event is being underwritten in part by a $10,000 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
