Scott Maben reported in this morning's paper that a memorial service for Sen. Bob McCaslin will be held at 2 p.m. March 27 at University High School, 12420 E. 32nd Ave.

McCaslin spent 30 years in the Washington state senate and had been serving on the Spokane Valley city council since 2010. He stepped down from his seat in the senate in January because of ill health.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a graduate of Washington State University, worked for Kaiser Aluminum and later owned a real estate firm.

McCaslin died Sunday. He was 84.
