From what I've heard over the scanner, people have been calling 911 over the last two days to report a fire in the hills above Barker and Trent. There's no reason to worry, though. The Spokane Valley Fire Department is conducting wildland fire training up there. The burning will continue through tomorrow, so expect to see a column of smoke in the area occasionally. If people get too enthusiastic about shooting off illegal fireworks this weekend, the firefighters may need that training sooner rather than later.
