WA prez primary ballot: Trump, Cruz, Kasich, Clinton, Sanders and …

OLYMPIA -- The names on Washington's Presidential Primary were finalized Friday, and Republicans who vote will see one name they thought was long gone from the campaign.

Dr. Ben Carson, who dropped out of the race several weeks ago, remains on the preliminary list of names released on Feb. 24 because he didn't inform state officials he wanted off.

Under state law, only the candidates may remove themselves from that preliminary primary list. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio signed a withdrawal on Friday, after dropping out Tuesday night.

But Carson did not respond to numerous contacts by the state Elections Division, Secretary of State Kim Wyman said in a news release.

That means he stays on and shares the Republican field with Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and John Kasich. Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are the Democratic candidates.

Washington Republicans will award delegates to their national convention based on the results of the May 24 presidential primary. Washington Democrats will ignore those results and use the caucus and convention system, which starts with precinct caucuses on March 26.
