Special Session: Coming this week

The special session finishes off its third week on Tuesday with relatively little to show the public so far. That could change, however.

On Monday the state Economic and Revenue Forecast Council will release its latest projections for the amount of money the state can expect to collect in taxes and fees for the next two and four years. That amount is a key component of discussions over the 2015-17 operating budget, the failure to pass which is the cause of the special session. And could be the cause of a second special session if negotiations don't pick up.

On Tuesday, the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee will hold a hearing on a bill that would penalize teachers who go on strike. It's aimed at the one-day walkouts that have hit some Puget Sound school districts, and could happen later this month in Spokane. It's timed to coincide with a walkout  in the Seattle School District, so the crowd could get lively.

On Wednesday the House is tentatively scheduled to have floor action. Members are being brought back on Monday for briefings -- and possibly a quick refresher on what a legislator does, considering they haven't done it for several weeks.
