Washington has 7 million people
OLYMPIA -- Washington's state population topped 7 million this year.
The Office of Financial Management estimated today state population went up about 1.3 percent, or about 93,200 people, in the last year to 7,061,400.
Most of the growth, about 62 percent, comes from people moving to the state. The remainder is known as "natural increase", or the net gain of births after subtracting for deaths.
About two-thirds of the new residents live in cities, with the biggest urban growth in Seattle. Spokane isn't in the top 10 of cities for growth, although Spokane Valley comes in at No. 9.
Spokane County is No. 6 for growth in unincorporated areas, coming in behind Snohomish, Clark, Pierce, King and Whatcom counties.
