2nd Spec Sess Day 14: Press conferences, a hearing and a protest
OLYMPIA -- A busier day than normal for the second special session.
Bipartisan supporters of a House bill to change the student assessment law that could block some high school seniors from graduating for failing to pass a biology test have a press conference at 10:30 a.m.
Bipartisan supporters of a Senate bill to change the way local property tax levies are used to pay from some school salaries have a press conference at 11 a.m., and the newly introduced bill gets a hearing in the Senate Ways and Means Committee at 1:30 p.m.
The Washington Federation of State Employees has a rally against the Senate Republican budget proposal, which it says doesn't spend enough on children's services, at noon at the Capitol Campus fountain. The union also has rallies planned for Everett, Tacoma and Vancouver at Department of Social and Health Services offices.
