WaLeg Day 80: Budgets, nukes and subpoenas

OLYMPIA -- The Senate operating budget proposal, fresh off yesterday's roll out, comes up for a votes a hearing in the Ways and Means Committee this afternoon.

Majority Republicans are on a fast track toward a possible floor vote by tomorrow.

Both chambers' transportation budgets get hearings in their respective committees this afternoon. House Transportation meets at 1:30 p.m. and Senate Transportation meets at 3:30 p.m., making it a bit easier on lobbyists who might otherwise have to clone themselves to testify on both bills at the same time.

Sen. Sharon Brown's bill in support of small modular reactors -- or baby nukes -- is among several energy bills up for a vote in the House Technology and Economic Development Committee.

And anyone holding their breath for an appearance of State Auditor Troy Kelley  in front of the Senate Accountability and Reform Committee was able to let it out about 8 a.m. He sent a couple of deputies instead. The committee also got some information on issuing legislative subpoenas.
