From Spencer Grainger in his own words: I have lived with my wife, and recently with two children, in the South Perry Neighborhood since 2003. We were attracted to the walkability of this area, so we purchased a 1911 craftsman home near Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery that we have slowly been renovating and improving. Since moving here, I have worked with the South Perry Business & Neighborhood Association and the South Perry Farmers’ Market. I have also helped organize the Summer Street Fair.
My background is in urban planning, community development, and community organizing. I obtained my Masters of Public Administration (MPA) from EWU in 2008. Recently, I helped complete and open the Emmanuel Family Life Center, which is located at
Richard Allen Court.
Ihave worked to strengthen communication within our neighborhood. I helped create the “South Perry Neighborhood News,” which is a monthly e-newsletter distributed through the Emmanuel Center - visit www.eflc.org to sign up. I hope to offer a perspective on local community development and organizing initiatives, and additionally, I hope to bring a unique perspective to the blog from the broader faith based community. Other areas of interest that I want to discuss relate to planning and public policy. Specifically, I would like to comment on policy affecting historic preservation, design, land use, transportation, and the environment.
