The Slice

Spokane mosquitoes vs. Spokane Valley mosquitoes

A friend who lives in Spokane Valley has a theory.

He sincerely believes that Spokane Valley mosquitoes are relatively benign while Spokane mosquitoes are vicious little suckers.

He will point to a nasty welt on his arm to buttress has claim. "Spokane mosquito," he'll say.

In his mind, that settles it.

Of course, I feel quite certain he is nuts about this. But he is unmoved by such skepticism.

I would ask how it is that insects in one city are bad news while those in the neighboring community are model citizens by comparison. But I fear I know the answer.

"I don't know. They just are."
