The Slice

New attitude about her obit

Dawni Miller shared this.

"Being completely nonphotogenic, it has become a running joke in my family that I am always looking for a picture of myself good enough for my obituary. I wanted it to be perfect! No wrinkles, hair done just right, my smile would have to be just the right amount of mirth without looking too forced. In other words, not me at all."

Then at the end of last year, the S-R published a section featuring 2016 obituaries.

"I was reading through them, reminiscing about friends and family members that have gone this past year, when I came across the obituary of a young woman that stood out from the rest. The picture showed her leaping into the air, her arms wide open as though embracing the world with a look of pure happiness on her face. What a wake-up call!

"I am now hoping that when my time comes, my loved ones will choose a picture that shows the joy I have felt in my life, the love I have for my family and friends and the fun that I have found during my lifetime.

"Thank you, Sarah. You and your loved ones changed me."
