A rift in the space/time continuum in Phoenix
So the sprawling media work area at the University of Phoenix Stadium is right next to the part of the complex you see on TV.
You know, the basketball court and tiers of seating. It's a big place.
Anyway, the press center is festooned with TV sets showing the games in progress.
But the TV feed is on a delay. Maybe it's 10 seconds.
So when the nearby crowd erupts in a thunderous reaction to something that happened in the game, the TVs in the media center won't reflect that moment for several seconds.
So last night, while the Oregon/North Carolina game was on TV, the nearby crowd noise would cue those working on their stories about the GU game about whether it was worth diverting attention to one of the TV screens.
It was a bit like being able to predict the future. Well, at least the future as depicted on television.
