Speaking of apple maggots

Monday's column mentioned the classic apple maggot quarantine signs.

"Had this tee made up quite a while ago," wrote Rick Straub. "Can't claim it was my original idea. Saw one at Seattle Center 25 years ago. Every time I'd pass one of the signs I'd think of that shirt, so I had one made for myself. Many older folks will give a knowing nod or smile. Most just look at me a little funny. Once in awhile I get a chance to explain the poor apple maggot's plight."
