The mystery of the multiple mugshots
In the 1994 movie "The Paper," a character played by the actor Clint Howard keeps having his chair stolen.
It drives him crazy.
It's some sort of special chair, as I recall. Good for his back or something. Anyway, the whole issue was one of the things that disappointing movie got right about newsrooms.
There's always some sort of drama going on that 99% percent of the people who work there don't care about. I'm sure that's true of most workplaces.
For me, it might be the mystery of the multiple mugshots.
I have had a number of pictures over the years. You know, for use with my column.
And you would think that using the most recent photo would be a pretty simple matter. It's in our computer system, after all.
But you would be wrong. So wrong.
The other day, we achieved a rare mugshot hat-trick.
The photo that ran with my print column was from 2010. (I looked it up.) And the mugs appearing in various places on the S-R's website that day were from 2015 and 2016.
Three. Count 'em -- three.
One of our page designers keeps me posted on this. Apparently it is an uncorrectable force of nature.
What will tomorrow hold? We'll have to wait and see.
Meantime, my goal is to not go full Clint Howard about it.
