The Slice

Paul’s People, No. 66

She moved to Spokane from Boise.
She moved to Spokane from Boise.

Here I am with Kath'ren Bay-Higdon.

Born in Spokane, she lived elsewhere from the time she was an infant until just a few years ago.

She came back to Spokane, in part, to be near family.

There's a story behind the apostrophe in her first name. But I think you should ask her yourself.

I wanted to include Kath'ren in the selfies series because she illustrates the fact that newcomers are welcome in The Slice. A lot of my correspondents are longtime contributors. I'd be lost without them. But newcomers can get into the act, too.

There is something else I like about Kath'ren. She can write.

This past August, she shared a story about a huge moth flying into her open mouth one night while she was in bed. She was 8 at the time.

"Would it bite me? Would its juices poison me? The only solution was to swallow it whole, which I did."

As you can see, she survived.
