The Slice

Paul’s People, No. 62 and No. 63

Jerry and Dee Hargitt.
Jerry and Dee Hargitt.

This is Jerry and Dee Hargitt, a couple of my favorite readers.

They live by Diamond Lake, up near Newport.

I hear from each of them. Here's something that ran in The Slice on June 2, 2001.

Before there was a need for bumper stickers that said "Put down the phone and drive": "I remember third grade in 1946, living in Waterloo, Mont.," wrote Jerry Hargitt of Newport. "If you wanted to talk to the neighbor, you walked the half mile."

He was in the Air Force for 21 years.

Dee, an excellent baker, ends each of her emails "Hugs."

Was nice to get one in person.
