The Slice

Dickensian Spokane

Mentioned to a friend last night via Twitter that Spokane seemed especially Dickensian right now.

That's partly an inside joke. In the final season of "The Wire," a newspaper editor is fond of that expression. And he is pretty much portrayed as an ass.

But this week, we are a city of haves and have-nots.

"Got power?" has become the universal question.

For those able to answer in the affirmative, life is good. Life is warm. Life is bright.

People with power want to hug each other.

The rest of us try to hang on here in the temporary Stone Age. It is the worst of times.

Though after last night, I suspect many will be scrambling for a new plan before tonight.

I'm rooting for us.
