The Slice

Taking the long view

A friend saw the question at the end of today's Slice column about whether you remember accompanying your parents to a polling place.

"Not my parents," he wrote. "But I do remember accompanying my grandmother to the polls late into her 80s so she could vote FOR school funding issues.

"I was present once when one of her neighbors asked her why a property owner her age on a fixed income would do such a thing.

"'It's our future,' she replied."
