Paul’s People, No. 20
I met Scott Miller when I got elected to a church board back in, to borrow a phrase from "Little Big Man", my religion period.
He immediately impressed me as smart, confident and capable of listening. I liked him right away.
When my elderly parents wanted to update their wills in 2007, he steered us to a fellow lawyer who proved to be perfect for the job.
And when I inexplicably became head of the aforementioned church board, he helped me with excellent advice.
I do not see Scott often these days, but I am always pleased when I do. One of the things I admire about him is his broad range of interests. Conversations with him are a treat.
He does not inundate me with Slice submissions. But when he does share something, it is always good.
I have a clear memory of tearing up while typing in something touching he wrote about annually sending an email to a friend who died in the attacks of 9/11. (The recipient's email account was not closed until 2012.).
Before I met Scott I might have assumed I would not ever get along all that well with someone who had been a theater major as an undergraduate. I was wrong.
