The Slice

Where have all the garage-door strike zones gone?

You know, the ones outlined with black tape.

The ones a kid with a baseball mitt and a tennis ball could eye as he imagined he stood on a big league pitcher's mound.

Haven't seen one in ages. Must not be an app for that.

Dads back in the day were reputed to be such hardasses. But many put up with that twilight note in the soundtrack of summer.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

And I'm sure kids today are every bit as creative as we were. Still, it did take a decent imagination to stare at the garage door and shake off an invisible catcher's sign as the crowd filled your ears with noise and the radio play-by-play announcer wondered aloud if you had it in you to retire one more batter.
