The Slice

“I have the social skills of a marmot”

Karen Mobley came across that line in a Garrison Keillor collection she was reading.

He wrote it quite a few years ago, in a piece about George Plimpton.

It raises a question. What sort of social skills does a marmot possess?

Judging from context, Keillor would have us believe they are limited. But with all due respect, how in the hell would he know? Do they even have marmots in Minnesota?

Look, I have been to a few social gatherings in my day. And I have seen people stare at cleavage and tell long, boring stories.

But I have never known a marmot to do either.
