The Slice

Confused about the concept

About 50 years ago, quite a few American families had backyard bomb shelters.

But not every child in these families fully grasped the implications of this rather suspect survival strategy.

The other day, I found myself wondering how many others my age can recall hearing childhood acquaintances brag about how cool their bomb shelter was and how it was crammed with neat stuff. You know, as if it was some sort of clubhouse.

But maybe it is asking too much to require that a kid comprehend the prospect of nuclear war. I mean, after all, it's not as if it makes any sense.
