The Slice

“Did you go anywhere?”

When you return to work after a week off, it's natural for your colleagues to ask about your vacation.

But sometimes, even if you had a productive, re-creating week, your report can sound a bit dull if your time away from the office did not involve bone-breaking outdoor adventure or exotic travel.

That's why I recommend lying. Consider these possible answers to "Did you go anywhere?" or "Do anything fun?"

"I went to Scotland and drank copious quantities of bottled spirits." (If your surprised co-worker presses you for details, just say you cannot remember.)

"I was going to go on one of those overseas sex tours but I started reading about the human rights downside and decided not to go." (There probably won't be any follow-up questions.)

"That guy climbing up the ice face of Niagara Falls? That was me." (No one will believe you, but it might make your co-workers laugh.)

"I fell into a rift in the space-time continuum and, well, it's a long story. Tell you later." (That's ludicrous, of course, but it does adhere to to first rule of talking about your vacation -- keep it short.)
