Is it required that you choose one over the other?

I know there is a special brand of disdain reserved for innocent dupes who mix up references from one of the "Star Wars" movies with something that comes from "Star Trek" or its spin-offs.

So what have you encountered? People who enjoy both or those whose loyalty is restricted to one or the other?
