This is a photo of me with my friend Vince Eberly.

It was taken on Friday, June 19, a few hours before I was in the hospital and my wife was hearing an exceedingly grim prognosis about my prospects.

I'm going to write about all that in due course. But first, a few words about Vince.

When I took this picture, he was just a few days from going to Russia. Why? Because he teaches kids for whom English is a second language and he believes that sort of travel makes him a better teacher.

I really like Vince. If you knew him, you would too.

When I got back to my desk after our rooftop photo session. I realized I had forgotten how to create a blog post. That was not the first sign something was wrong with me. But as I said, I'll get to that.
