Do you Remember the Milwaukee Road?
From 1909, when the Milwaukee Road, the common name of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, connected Spokane to Seattle and to points east, until the rails were removed from downtown area, the Milwaukee played a large part in Spokane's history. The first few decades were filled with explosive growth, then followed by the inevitable decline as buses, trucks, airplanes and automobiles took over its duties. By 1980, the Milwaukee Road was no more, at least in the Northwest. Do you have any memories of the Milwaukee Road?
