Newly elected Spokane City Councilman Jon Snyder and his five-year-old daughter, Theo, are eagerly anticipating the U.S. National Championships. Just don't expect Snyder to take a turn on the ice.

Q. When was the last time you went ice skating?

A. "Been a long time. I have a completely severed ACL and a torn miniscus in my left knee and haven't had the time to get surgery with my Council campaign and subsequent election."

Q. Any favorite skating memories?

A. "My sister was a FREAK for the movie "Ice Castles" when we were young. She even had a Dorothy Hamill haircut. It's hard to for people to understand the appeal of Robby Benson today, but back then he was THE MAN."

Q. Do you have a favorite figure skater?

A. "Rudy Galindo. He was one of the first openly gay mens figure skating stars. He also won big when he was older than other skaters and I always thought that was a real accomplishment."

Q. What are you most looking forward to about the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating
Championships?

A. "My 5-year old daughter is psyched to go. Disney on Ice got her really primed and now she's ready for real competition!"

Q. What do you want guests and/or the television audience to remember about
Spokane?

A. "Spokane is the best mid-size city in America; great heritage, great outdoors, and great can-do spirit. We LOVE national events. There isn't a jaded bone in our body."
